New Brake System (Patented) for Mobil Safe
The Challenge
Employees moving 2+ ton safes and vaults had difficulty triggering the OEM braking system. Especially when surfaces had incline or decline, employees would lose control of the safes and vaults resulting in injury to themselves, workers in their near vicinity, and equipment. To prevent and reduce workplace injuries related to moving safes and vaults, we wanted an engineering solution to make the process of transporting equipment safer.
Our Approach
We worked directly with those at risk, interviewing employees and supervisors about the current state and incidents of equipment malfunction or failure. We observed the employees performing their job duties and examined their equipment and machines to best find a solution to their problem.
Our Solution
We designed, tested, and installed a new brake kit to complement current mobil safe functionality and introduced a braking functionality that was easy to use, reliable, and most importantly, kept employees and their equipment safe.
Clamp System for Mobil Safe and Mobil Vault Transportation
The Challenge
Transporting the cash vaults to the cash room without incident to the driver, the equipment, or vehicles at times proved to be challenging. LA MTA reached out to Southern AM Engineering for this unique engineering challenge that affected their employees, capital investments, and operations. After conducting our current state assessment, we provided a simulated Solidworks design of the prototype solution, then a few weeks later we manufactured the same for testing and inspection.
Our Approach
After observing the employees performing their job duties and examining equipment and machines, we sought to learn more about the current state and incidents of equipment malfunction or failure. Working directly with our clients, we created a feasible design solution using Solidworks software. Upon review of the simulated design and quotation with our client, we were ready to begin building a prototype.
Our Solution
We designed, tested, and installed a new on-board clamping system to complement current mobil safe functionality and introduced a vault clamping functionality that was reliable and easy to use. As a result of the new clamp system, driver workplace injuries, equipment damage, and vehicle damage related to transporting safes and vaults have vastly improved. Our staff are more confident in the safety of the work environment.

Improved Harness
The Challenge
Supply chain challenges with quality, price, and availability of harnesses for radios.
Our Approach
We reviewed technical specifications and interviewed department supervisors about the current state and difficulties they experienced with having a reliable source for this part. As a result, we created a custom design solution using the Solidworks software. After reviewing directly with our client, we began building a prototype.
Our Solution
We successfully designed, tested, and delivered the first article for onsite certification. As a result of the new design, a critical part is now sourced locally in the US and is available on demand.
